Schüller vs Nobilia Kitchens

Two of the finest German kitchen manufacturers, compared honestly. Both are manufactured in Germany, both carry the RAL Golden M furniture quality mark, and both are supplied factory-built into the UK by LindenHaus. Here is how they differ on the things that actually shape your kitchen – price, hardware, finish choice and cabinet flexibility.

Nobilia

Germany's largest kitchen manufacturer

Founded in Verl in 1945, Nobilia is the largest kitchen manufacturer in Europe, producing kitchens across two Westphalian plants. We supply every one of Nobilia's 20 UK ranges – built to order in Germany, delivered rigid to the UK, and covered by the full 10-year manufacturer warranty. Nobilia is best known for exceptional value, an extensive standard cabinet programme, and its own in-house Sensys hinge and nBox drawer system.

Schüller

Family-owned, engineering-led, exceptionally flexible

Family-owned and Bavarian-made since 1966, Schüller produces every kitchen from a single vertically-integrated site in Herrieden. It mills its own carcases, presses its own doors and paints its own lacquer fronts on site – which is what delivers Schüller's finish consistency, its 28-colour Colour Concept palette shared across several ranges (alongside range-specific colours and finishes outside it), and its ability to build bespoke cabinet sizes when a standard configuration won't fit. We supply the full Schüller programme of all 27 UK ranges, with Blum hinges and Blum drawer boxes fitted throughout.

German quality standards

Independently tested. Certified in Germany.

Both Nobilia and Schüller are built to extremely high German quality standards and hold recognised RAL quality certifications. Every kitchen we supply is manufactured in Germany and independently tested to meet those standards.

In practice, this means both brands share the same trust signals: the RAL Golden M (Goldenes M) mark, awarded after independent testing for quality, durability, safety, health and environmental standards under RAL-GZ 430; the Furniture Made in Germany origin label, confirming that design, manufacture, quality assurance and assembly all take place in Germany; and PEFC certification for responsibly sourced timber.

Both manufacturers also perform extensive in-house component testing – hinges, drawer runners, door fronts and worktop edges are cycled tens of thousands of times before a range goes into production. Nobilia's Sensys hinge, for example, is tested well beyond typical residential lifetime use.

  • Manufactured in Germany at owned facilities
  • RAL 'Golden M' quality mark (RAL-GZ 430)
  • 'Furniture Made in Germany' origin label
  • PEFC certified for responsible timber sourcing
  • In-house cycle testing on hinges, runners and fronts
Cabinet construction

Bespoke, rigid-build, glued and dowelled.

Both Nobilia and Schüller manufacture every kitchen bespoke and to order as rigid-build cabinets – glued and hardwood-dowelled, delivered fully assembled to the UK. There is no flat-pack build on site.

The core carcase spec is essentially identical between the two brands – it's one of the reasons UK buyers can shortlist them interchangeably and choose on colour, hardware and price rather than build quality.

One small but genuine construction difference: Schüller uses two solid timber cross-beams across the top of every base unit, where Nobilia uses the standard carcase board. Both are structurally sound – it's a detail worth knowing when you're comparing spec sheets.

Hardware

Two proven approaches to hinges and drawers.

This is one of the clearest points of difference between the two brands. Both are engineered for a lifetime of daily use and both fit soft-close and self-close action as standard on every door and drawer – but the hardware systems themselves come from different places.

Nobilia

Sensys hinges and nBox drawers, engineered in-house

Nobilia Sensys concealed hingeNobilia nBox metal-sided drawer system

Nobilia designs and manufactures its own Sensys concealed hinge and its own nBox metal-sided drawer system. Everything is engineered specifically for the Nobilia carcase, tested in-house through tens of thousands of open/close cycles, and included as standard on every range.

  • Sensys soft-close concealed hinges
  • nBox metal-sided drawer system
  • Self-close action past a set opening angle
  • Fully integrated with Nobilia's carcase system
Schüller

Blum hinges and Blum drawer boxes, fitted throughout

Schüller fits Blum hardware throughout – Blum hinges on doors and Blum drawer boxes on every drawer. Blum is the Austrian benchmark for kitchen hardware and its soft-close and self-close mechanisms are tested to hundreds of thousands of cycles.

  • Blum drawer boxes on every drawer
  • Self-close action past a set opening angle
  • Industry-standard hardware known to every fitter
Pricing compared

How do Nobilia and Schüller prices compare?

On like-for-like specifications, Schüller is generally slightly more expensive than the equivalent Nobilia range. That premium reflects Schüller's wider programme, its Blum hardware, its greater cabinet flexibility, and its ability to build bespoke sizes when the standard grid won't fit.

The bands below are indicative supply-only prices, inclusive of VAT and covering units, accessories, integrated lighting and delivery. They exclude appliances (which vary enormously depending on the brand and specification you choose) and stone worktops – we supply laminate worktops in-house, but most clients prefer to source quartz, granite or dekton worktops locally.

Every kitchen is different, so these are only a guide. Actual pricing depends entirely on the size of the room, the cabinet layout, the finish chosen and the level of interior fit-out. The most reliable way to compare is a free design and quotation – there's no obligation and no pressure.

Range & design choice

Schüller offers the widest programme.

Schüller offers the larger overall programme – more door styles, more colours, more finishes, and greater design flexibility across ranges. Its 28-colour Colour Concept palette is shared across several ranges, giving a wider set of coordinated colours than Nobilia's range-specific groupings. Both brands also offer colours and finishes unique to individual ranges - you cannot order any door in any colour.

Nobilia's programme is smaller in absolute terms but still extremely deep by any UK standard – 20 ranges across seven price groups, covering handleless, framed cottage-style and traditional handled cabinetry, with fronts in lacquer, lacquer laminate, real wood veneer, honed matt and high gloss.

For most contemporary and classic projects, Nobilia will have a range that fits. Where Schüller pulls ahead is when you need a very specific colour match, an unusual finish, or to mix multiple front programmes in ways that a standard catalogue can't quite accommodate.

We supply every UK range from both brands – all 20 Nobilia ranges and all 27 Schüller ranges, not a narrowed-down selection.

FAQs

Frequently asked questions

Is Schüller more expensive than Nobilia?+

Generally, yes. On like-for-like specifications Schüller is typically slightly more expensive, reflecting its wider colour palette, Blum hardware and greater cabinet flexibility. Every kitchen is different – the best way to compare is a free design and quotation.

Are Nobilia and Schüller both made in Germany?+

Yes. Both are manufactured in Germany, both hold the RAL 'Golden M' furniture quality mark (RAL-GZ 430), both carry the 'Furniture Made in Germany' origin label and both are PEFC certified.

Which brand has more colours and finishes?+

Schüller has the widest programme, including its 28-colour Colour Concept palette shared across several ranges. For both brands, colours and finishes are either unique to a particular range or shared across multiple ranges - you cannot order any door in any colour. The Colour Concept simply gives Schüller a broader shared palette than Nobilia's range-specific groupings.

What hardware do the two brands use?+

Schüller fits Blum hinges and Blum drawer boxes throughout. Nobilia fits its own Sensys hinges and nBox drawer system. Both include soft-close and self-close action as standard on every door and drawer.

How thick are the cabinet carcases?+

Both brands use identical spec: 16mm sides, 19mm top and bottom shelves, 19mm internal shelves, and cabinet feet rated to 50kg per foot (a standard 600mm base unit has four feet). Cabinets are glued and hardwood-dowelled, rigid-build. Schüller adds two solid timber cross-beams across the top of every base unit; Nobilia uses the standard carcase board here.

What warranty do Nobilia and Schüller offer?+

Nobilia currently offers a 10-year manufacturer warranty on its cabinetry. Schüller offers 5 years. Both warranties are honoured directly by the manufacturer in Germany.

Do you supply every Nobilia and Schüller range?+

Yes – we supply the full UK programme from both brands: all 20 Nobilia ranges and all 27 Schüller ranges, not a curated selection.

How long do Nobilia and Schüller kitchens take to arrive in the UK?+

Both brands typically deliver in 6–8 weeks from a signed-off order, subject to the range, finish and current factory lead time.

Do you supply appliances and stone worktops?+

We supply cabinets, accessories, integrated lighting, delivery and laminate worktops. We also supply specialist appliances that require expert integration – BORA downdraft hobs and extraction systems, Elica designer extractors, and Quooker boiling-water taps. For general appliances such as ovens, fridges and dishwashers, most clients prefer to source locally so they can choose brands and price points that suit them. Stone, quartz and dekton worktops are also sourced locally.

Will the cabinets be made to fit my chosen appliances?+

Yes. Once you confirm the appliance models you plan to use – whether supplied by us or sourced elsewhere – the German factory manufactures the carcases and drawer packs to fit those exact dimensions. This ensures a precise, built-in finish for every unit.

Can I mix door styles within one project?+

Yes. Both brands allow you to mix compatible front programmes within the same project as long as the ranges share a compatible carcase system. Your designer will confirm what works cleanly.

Do Nobilia and Schüller kitchens have handleless options?+

Yes. Both offer true handleless options with recessed grip rails or J-pull profiles alongside conventional handled and shaker fronts. Schüller offers more handleless variants across its range.
