Rocca is real wood. A genuine brushed oak veneer protected by a rigid two-component lacquer, at price group 7, available handled or handleless. In a catalogue where most timber effects are reproductions, this is the front for anyone who wants the actual material, with the natural variation in grain and colour between doors that only veneer gives you.
The brushing is important. Before the lacquer goes on, the oak surface is brushed to remove the softer early wood, leaving the harder grain slightly raised. The result is a door with a real tactile ridge and valley to it, and a surface that catches light along the grain rather than uniformly. Three finishes are offered: Light Knotty Oak Bianco, a pale limed oak with visible knots, Natural Knotty Oak, the mid-brown option, and Maroon Knotty Oak, a deeper, redder tone with more drama. Knotty is accurate in all three, since the character of the board is part of the design rather than something to be graded out.
The two-component lacquer is what makes real veneer practical in a kitchen. It is a rigid, chemically cured coating rather than an oil or a wax, so the front resists water, steam and cleaning products and does not need re-oiling. Rocca is most often specified as the island or the tall run rather than the whole kitchen, paired with a matt lacquer such as Matera, Fino Matt or Targa, which puts the material where it is seen and touched.
