Best suited to
- Matt black kitchens that still have to survive family use
- Handleless architectural schemes on a controlled budget
- Neutral perimeter units paired with a timber or veneer island
- Anyone wanting real lacquer depth rather than a matt laminate
Matera is the single best value front in the Schueller catalogue and it is not close. A deep matt velvet UV lacquer with an anti-fingerprint surface, in price group 1, available handled or handleless. Anti-fingerprint matt lacquer normally sits several price bands higher across the German market, which is why Matera turns up in so many of the projects we quote.
The finish is a UV-cured lacquer rather than a laminate, so the colour has real depth and the surface has a genuine velvet drag under the hand rather than the slightly plasticky feel of a matt foil. Seven neutrals are offered: crystal and seashell whites at the pale end, warm sand and pebble greys through the middle, and onyx or lava black at the dark end. The two blacks are the reason people specify it. A deep matt black kitchen is one of the most requested looks in the UK and normally the most impractical, because standard matt black shows every hand mark. The AFP coating on Matera solves that.
Because it is a plain slab, Matera works in either direction. Specify it handleless with a recessed grip rail or a J profile for a strictly architectural room, or with slim bar handles for something softer. It is also the natural perimeter partner for a timber front, and Lava Black Matera against a brushed oak island is a scheme we build regularly, including in our design gallery. Cabinets arrive rigid built and fully assembled, with soft-close hinges and drawer runners as standard and the 5 year Schueller guarantee.
